Will Dental Implant Surgery Hurt?
It’s completely natural to worry about discomfort. Fortunately, dental implant surgery is usually much more comfortable than people expect.
The procedure is typically performed under local anaesthetic, and most patients report only mild to moderate tenderness afterwards. Some common post-surgical effects include:
Swelling
Bruising
Soreness at the implant site
These symptoms usually subside within a few days and can be easily managed with:
Ice packs applied gently to the face
Plenty of rest
Over-the-counter pain relief, if needed
Many patients are surprised to find that having a dental implant placed is often easier than having a tooth removed.
Healing and Recovery: What to Expect
For single or small numbers of implants, healing is typically straightforward and quick. If you’re having full-mouth dental implants, recovery can take a little longer due to the number of implants placed—but we’ll be there to guide and support you through every stage.
It’s important to rest and follow your aftercare instructions carefully, but the mouth heals very quickly with the right care. We’ll keep a close eye on your progress and make sure everything is healing exactly as it should.
Anxious About Surgery? Sedation Is Available
Although most patients are comfortable with local anaesthetic alone, we also offer the option of intravenous (IV) sedation for those who would prefer extra reassurance. This will help you feel relaxed throughout the procedure and can be discussed during your consultation.
